I think I am one of those kind of people who refuse to or cannot “grow up” in certain aspects of my life. And I’m O.K. with that.
Ever since I can remember I have liked to color and play in the mud, or in anything goopy or messy. I have also had this weird fascination with stuffed animals! There have been times in my life that I have thought they were real. My family can vouch for this. I cannot walk by stuffed animals in any store for fear of them (yes, the stuffed animals) insisting I take every one of them home or at worst having to choose who gets to come home with me. I have no explanation as to why this is, but with this in mind, as scary as it may seem, it makes perfect sense that my choices in media and subject matter, regarding my art, are what they are.
Although I love working in a multitude of media (colored pencil, watercolors, acrylics, oil pastel, clay, paper clay and papier-mâché), I will have to admit my favorite is making UBz and UBeez! UBz are silly monsters, animals, or what I call "unusual beasts" made out of upcycled sweaters! Ubeez are simple, soft and huggable creatures made from new socks. Bringing UBz and UBeez "to life" have been the most fun I have ever had creating!! And giving them up to other people has been necessary therapy!! But... Please know that every UB and each UBee has been hugged and loved before it is sent to it's new home!!!!!
My artwork is about making people happy and making them and especially myself, laugh! That’s all…
